The principal goals of this program are to explore new materials and processes for scaled digital and analog device fabrication.

 Research needs generally fall into the following five categories:

• Patterning
• Frond-End Processes
• Back-End Processes

• ESH (Environment, Safety, and Health)

The principal goal of this discovery-driven program is towards enabling sustainability and environmentally benign processing in integrated-circuit manufacturing.

The ESH R&D needs are addressed in four sub-categories as follows:

• ESH impact analysis of materials.
• Aqueous effluent management.
• Air emissions management.
• Alternative materials analysis.
