ERA-Net for research programs on rare diseases - E-rare and the Israeli Industry Center for R&D MATIMOP are announcing a new call for proposals.

Objective:
E-Rare is supported by the European Commission ERA-Net scheme under the Seventh Framework Program: E-Rare-2. E-Rare (ERA-Net on rare diseases) is a network of sixteen partners – public bodies, ministries and research funding organizations – from twelve countries, responsible for the development and funding of national/regional research programs on rare diseases. E-Rare fosters research on rare diseases in Europe and associated countries. E-Rare partners systematically exchange information on rare diseases research and organize joint funding initiatives.
The aim of this call is to promote transnational research collaborations on rare diseases. Nine countries from the European Research Area are joining this call : Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Greece, Israel, Italy, Spain and Turkey.

Eligibilities:
Research proposals shall concern one or more rare diseases and have a clear potential for clinical application. The added-value of transnational collaboration should be clearly demonstrated: gathering a critical mass of patients/biological material that would not be possible on a national level, sharing of resources (models, databases, diagnosis etc.), harmonization of data, sharing of specific know-how and/or innovative technologies, etc. Each submitted proposal must involve a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 6 research groups from at least 3 different countries participating to this call (see list above).

Project Duration:
Funding is granted for a maximum of three years.

Funding:
The submission and evaluation process will be managed by the E-Rare-2 secretariat for the Joint Transnational Call 2011 (JTC 2011). Whilst applications will be submitted jointly by research groups from several countries, individual groups will be funded by the individual funding organization of their country/region that is participating in the E-Rare-2 JTC 2011. Applicants are therefore subject to eligibility criteria of individual funding organizations.
