Topics of interest

The EHF Interdisciplinary Research Fund supports research focusing on the continuum from environmental pollution, to exposures, to health effects. EHF supports research on the epidemiological, toxicological, and environmental aspects of Environment and Health in Israel as well as research on relevant social, political, economic, ethical, and legal issues. EHF seeks innovative research that relates to specific environment and health concerns in Israel.

EHF's primary interest is in understanding and mitigating the impact on humans of low dose chronic exposure to man-made environmental pollution in Israel.

It is anticipated that the outcome of the research supported by EHF will be helpful in understanding the environmental burden of disease in Israel and in creating interventions and policies designed to reduce this burden.   The specific topics and questions EHF is interested in addressing include:

  • Understanding the nature and extent of exposure of the population in Israel to polluted air, water, soil and food; identifying, validating and implementing methods for exposure assessment.
  • Understanding the nature and extent of the environmental burden of specific diseases in Israel; identifying and understanding specific population susceptibilities and how they interact with exposure to pollution.
  • Understanding the political, economic and social factors that contribute to environment and health in Israel; identifying and assessing regulatory methodologies and points of intervention which contribute to reduction of pollution, prevention of adverse health effects, and remediation of polluted media.

Eligibility

EHF will not fund more than one concurrent project with the same (or very similar) team of investigators. These restrictions apply to all PIs as well as to collaborating investigators who request more than $20K/year.

* A PI may submit more than one proposal in a given year, provided that the proposals are pursuing different topics. However, if multiple proposals from the same PI are deemed worthy of funding, only ONE of these may be funded.

* Scientists planning to submit more than one proposal must inform all scientists involved in all proposals of the intent to be involved with additional proposals.

* PI's with active grants from EHF can be collaborators on another project funded by EHF but cannot be PI's.

* There are no restrictions on reapplication or continued funding. EHF encourages researchers with promising, original research lines to reapply for continued support.

Application timetable

Stage 1: Pre-proposals must reach EHF by 9.11.2010

For applicants whose pre-proposals are accepted, notification of requests for full proposals will be sent by 30.12.2010.

Stage 2: Full proposals and signature pages must reach EHF by 15.3.2011.
