Israel Cancer Research Fund (ICRF)

Jacki and Bruce Barron Cancer Research Scholars` program:

Aim: to advance understanding of cancer and develop life-saving therapies, novel diagnostic approaches and/or prevention strategies and promoting international partnerships for outstanding cancer research in Israel with a collaborating investigator at City of Hope in Duarte, California. The four interrelated components of the program are:

1) Collaborative grants to scientists at City of Hope and in Israel that would meet the highest standards of peer-reviewed research funding: $150,000 for 1-2 year

2) Postdoctoral training at City of Hope for promising young Israeli scientist

3) Sabbaticals for established Israeli scientists at City of Hope and for City of Hope Scientists in Israel; and

4) An annual symposium that would bring researchers from the United States and Israel together to share research discoveries

​Project grants:

Intended to support the research of established investigators. The grant is made to an institution with the understanding that it will support a specific project under the direction of a designated principal investigator. Project Grants are given preferentially to those persons who have more than three years of postdoctoral fellowship or equivalent experience prior to the date on which the ICRF award is to begin.

Funding: $50,000 per year for 1-2 years.

Len and Susan Mark Initiative for Ovarian and Uterine/mmmt Cancers:

Supports the research of established investigators studying the biology, diagnosis, treatment, or prevention of ovarian and/or uterine/MMMT cancers.. Projects that utilize interdisciplinary approaches and that are multi-investigator are encouraged. Funding: up to $60,000/yr for 3 years.

Research Professorship

To support a full-time, senior faculty member, who has made outstanding contributions to cancer research and who will continue to provide leadership in his or her area. The applicant must have at least 8 years experience beyond the doctoral degree, and be no less than 5 years from the usual age of retirement at his or her institution. The Research Professorship is awarded for 7 years at a max. Stipend of $50,000/year.

Clinical Research Career Development Awards (CRCDAs)

To enhance the clinical research capabilities of young scientists. The main purpose is to provide free time for young medical or pediatric oncologists to devote to clinical research projects and to obtain additional (post-fellowship) training to become a leader in clinical research programs. Candidates must have a medical degree and at least 2 years of fellowship training in medical or pediatric hematology-oncology or a related specialty, but not more than 5 years of subsequent relevant professional experience. A CRCDA is limited to a single support period of 3 years at a stipend of $45,000/year.

Research Career Development Awards (RCDAs)

To enhance the research capabilities of young scientists, with at least 3 years of postdoctoral fellowship and within 5 years of their 1st academic appointment. Funding: $35,000/year for 3 years.

Postdoctoral Fellowships

Aim: to support young investigators during their postdoctoral training period. Preference is given to persons with no more than 3 years of postdoctoral fellowship or equivalent experience prior to the award commencement date.

Funding: up to $25,000/year for 2 years.

The Brause Family Initiative for Quality of Life

Aim: to improve and increase quality of life alternatives for cancer patients. The grants will support research studying the treatment of pain, side effects, and emotional problems experienced by cancer patients in order to maintain the best possible quality of life, with an emphasis on non-opioid solutions.

Funding: $250,000 for 3 years.
