Fritz Thyssen Foundation: Projects in humanities, social sciences, and biomed fields

Support of projects by the Fritz Thyssen Foundation focuses on scholars in the humanities, social science and biomedicine fields in the following areas:

-History, Language & Culture - Among areas supported: cultural studies which seek to establish interdisciplinary contact with the social sciences, projects which are based on cooperation with the natural sciences, particularly with the cognitive neuro-sciences, research traditions of the „classical“ arts disciplines, particularly philosophy and theology.

-"Image and Imagery" – Among areas supported: analyses of image recognition and forms of representation, projects in disciplines such as art and cultural history, broader transdisciplinary studies, projects which deal with the logic of images, the anthropology of images, problems in the sciences, the culture and the history of images, the relation of aesthetic and cognitive achievements or the instrumental role of the image in the representational processes of the sciences.

-State, Economy and Society- Among areas supported: projects which investigate the preconditions leading to change in modern societies, projects which can be assigned to the fields of economics, law, politics, sociology and ethnology,.

-"International Relations" - analysis and study of the interrelationships between very different processes of “de-territorialisation” in the economic, legal and political spheres.

-Medicine and the Natural Sciences - Molecular causes in the development of illnesses, with preference to functional analysis of genes for genetic illnesses in vitro and in vivo, establishment and evaluation of cell and animal models for the study of genetic illnesses, or analysis of predisposing genes or genes which modify illnesses.

Interdisciplinary projects are also welcomed by the foundation. Collaboration with German researchers is essential. Funding: Not specified, approx. €200K
