Interdisciplinary research projects in the sciences, engineering and medicine linking up molecular or nanoscale units to form complex functional systems, building on components controllable on the nanometer scale, suitably expanding existing state-of-the-art techniques in order to obtain effects utilizable at the macroscopic level.
