DARPA: Revolutionary Enhancement of Visibility by Exploiting Active Light-Fields (REVEAL) has the below topic areas of interest:

· Develop a comprehensive theoretical framework and the requisite technologies for maximum information extraction from complex scenes by leveraging the higher dimensions of the Plenoptic function and multiple degrees of freedom of light over all – both direct and indirect – photon pathways, i.e. single and multi-bounce photons (including decoding information from before the last “bounce”).

· The determination of the fundamental bounds of scene information extraction based on optimally exploiting photon pathways and degrees of freedom of light;

· The development of design specifications/metrics for new technologies (e.g., sources, optics, sensors, and processing) that would be capable of measuring the optimal combinations of degrees of freedom;

· The lab-scale demonstration of systems capable of testing the comprehensive theoretical framework;

· Demonstration of full 3D scene reconstruction from a single viewpoint. It is expected that performers will be publishing and sharing their results broadly within the scientific community.

· Address a challenge problem: full 3D scene reconstruction from a single viewpoint.
