*Grants to prevent preterm birth: Each year, more newborns die as a result of preterm birth than from any other cause. Preventing Preterm Birth, an initiative within the Grand Challenges in Global Health, is providing grants to discover new solutions to ensure healthy births around the world. The Challenge - Phase 3: To discover and characterize longitudinal changes associated with normal and abnormal pregnancy and develop biomarkers to identify at-risk pregnancies through rigorous analysis of underlying biological mechanisms that lead to preterm birth, focusing on the role of high dimensional systems biology and its applications in pregnancy. GAPPS anticipates each grant will not exceed $1,300,000 USD for the entire three year funding period. Indirect costs are included in the total award.
