InnoCentive and The Humanitarian Innovation Fund: Space Saving Jerry Can

The importance of having a water container in an emergency situation cannot be overestimated. Often, refugees fleeing from conflict will arrive in a refugee camp or a village with virtually no possessions. One of the first activities they must accomplish is to collect water. The Fund desires a space-saving jerry can that can be easily stored and distributed during a crisis. In addition, while aid agencies provide clean water at water points, all research shows that the majority of water contamination takes place in the home. Therefore, a safe water container is required that keeps the water free from possible routes of contamination in the home. This is a Reduction-to-Practice Challenge that requires written documentation, experimental proof-of-concept data, and sample delivery. An award of $5,000 is contingent upon theoretical evaluation and experimental validation of the submitted Solutions by the Seeker. An additional award of $15,000 may be paid to a Solver that can deliver 200 samples for field testing.
