Aim: to address the long-term consequences of traumatic brain injury (TBI) as they pertain to Alzheimer's disease (AD). PRARP is devoted to (1) understanding the association between TBI and AD; and (2) reducing the burden on caregivers and individuals affected by TBI-AD symptoms, especially in the military community.
- Convergence Science Research Award- Efforts to generate research resources and tools, or novel research efforts for professionals and practitioners, addressing any of the following challenges: Paucity of Research Resources, Paucity of Clinical Studies, Diagnostic Technologies, Tests, Interventions or Devices and one of the focus areas: Genomics/Proteomics/Bioinformatics, Pathology of Tau, Roles of non-neuronal cells in TBI/AD pathogenesis . Funding: $500K for up to 3 yrs.
- Quality of Life Research Award- Aim: to reduce the burden on caregivers and individuals affected by the common symptoms of both TBI and AD, especially in the military community, addressing Cognitive Training, Behavioral Interventions, Neuropsychological Interventions, Studies of Health and Wellness, Caregiver Training, Home-Based Support, or Relationship Interventions. Funding: $500K for up to 3 yrs.
- Military Risk Factors Research Award- Aim: to facilitate high-impact; systematic, population-based research investigating the association between TBI and the subsequent development of AD. Interdisciplinary teams or consortia are encouraged. Studies that use combinations of measures (e.g., neuropsychological assessments, imaging, genomics, and cerebral spinal fluid) are encouraged. Funding: $5.5 million for up to 4 yrs.
