Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation International (JDRF): The Role of Beta Cell Antigen Modifications In Type 1 Diabetes

JDRF is soliciting applications for the study of modifications of pancreatic beta cell proteins in the pathogenesis, diagnosis, prevention and treatment of human type 1 diabetes (T1D). Proposals should focus on research that will translate to clinical application. Applications are sought in the research areas of:
1. Validating conserved PTMs or other beta cell protein modifications as early biomarkers of pathogenesis of human T1D with the overall goal of staging risk and predicting T1D onset.
2. Novel preventive or therapeutic approaches targeting beta cell protein modifications.
3. Elucidating whether human T1D arises from the immune-mediated targeting of beta cell protein modifications.
Will not be supported: the identification of novel PTMs, or mechanism-based studies or research that is based solely on animal models. Funding: Up to $250,000/year for up to 2 years.
