תיאור כללי:

Hypothesis Development Award
Supports conceptually innovative, high-risk/high-reward research that could ultimately lead to critical discoveries or major advancements that will drive the field of vision research forward. This award is not intended to support the continuation of existing studies.
Preliminary or published data is encouraged but not required. Applications must specifically address one or more of the Focus Areas:
1. Mitigation and treatment of traumatic injuries, war-related injuries, and diseases to ocular structures and the visual system
2. Mitigation and treatment of visual dysfunction associated with traumatic brain injury (TBI)
3. Vision restoration following traumatic injury
4. Modeling and simulation of traumatic ocular injury
Funding: up to $250,000 over 2 years.
Translational Research Award
Supports translational research that will accelerate the movement of promising ideas in vision research into clinical applications with encouragement for a team approach involving collaboration among clinicians, scientists, and/or engineers. Observations that drive a research idea may be derived from a laboratory discovery, population-based studies, or a clinician’s firsthand knowledge of patients and anecdotal data. Applications must include preliminary or published data and specifically address one or more of the Focus Areas:
1. Mitigation and treatment of traumatic injuries, war-related injuries, and diseases to ocular structures and the visual system
2. Mitigation and treatment of visual dysfunction associated with traumatic brain injury (TBI)
3. Vision restoration following traumatic injury
4. Vision rehabilitation strategies and quality of life measures Funding: up to $1 million over 3 years.
* Pre-proposal Narrative is 3 pages.
* Relevance to the health care needs of the Armed Forces, their family members, and/or the U.S. Veteran population is a key feature of this award. Therefore, PIs are strongly encouraged to collaborate, integrate, and/or align their research projects with military and/or VA research laboratories and programs.
