BSF-NSF Joint Funding Program in Integrative Biological Systems / Organismal Biology - Pre-proposal

The call is limited to applications in Organismal Biology, as defined by the NSF. which definition overlaps with multiple BSF funding areas, including life sciences, ecology, environmental research and oceanography.
Scientists from Israel and the U.S. will write together a proposal for a joint research project. The U.S. scientist will submit the proposal to the NSF (International Collaborations in Organismal Biology Between US and Israeli Investigators (ICOB)), and if the proposal is selected, will receive a regular grant from the NSF. The Israeli scientist will submit the same core proposal (same 15 pages of program description) to the BSF. If selected, the Israeli scientist will receive a BSF grant, which is planned to be larger than a regular BSF grant. Grants will usually be for 3 years. Funding overlap with other BSF grant is not allowed.
Grant selection will be made in two stages, with a short pre-proposal that will be followed by a full proposal. The pre-proposal is designed mostly to examine the eligibility of the application, rather than its scientific merit. Evaluation of the full proposals will be made mainly by the NSF, but with BSF participation. The criteria for reviewing, as well as instructions to the reviewers and panel members, will be those of the NSF. Both pre-proposals and full proposals will be made by the U.S. scientist (only) to the NSF using its regulations and submission system and by both the Israeli and the American to the BSF, using its submission system.
