DOD-CDMRP: Neurofibromatosis Research Program (NFRP) - Pre-application (LOI)

- Clinical Trial Award: Fund Phase 0, I, or II clinical trials relevant to NF and/or Schwannomatosis. Combinations of phases are permitted. Preclinical data required. Phase I or pilot clinical trial data required for Phase II clinical trial applications. Funding: $900K over 4 years.
- Exploration - Hypothesis Development Award: Fund the initial exploration of innovative, untested research and pursue serendipitous observations. Preliminary data is encouraged but not required. Projects involving human subjects or human anatomical substances must be exempt under 32 CFR 219.101(b) or eligible for expedited review under 32 CFR 219.110 or 21 CFR 56.110. Clinical trials not allowed. Funding: $100K over max 2 years.
- Investigator-Initiated Research Award: Fund basic and clinically oriented research relevant to NF and/or Schwannomatosis. Preliminary data required. Optional Features: Applications that include either a Qualified Collaborator or Postdoctoral Fellow who meet criteria identified in the Program Announcement/Funding Opportunity may apply for a higher level of funding. Clinical trials not allowed. Optional Nested Postdoctoral Traineeship: Must have 3 years or less of postdoctoral experience at the time of application. Funding: $525K ($675K if requesting an Optional Qualified Collaborator or Postdoctoral Fellow) over max 3 years.
- New Investigator Award: Fund investigators in the early stages of their careers or established investigators seeking to transition into a career in NF research. Experience in NF research is allowed, but not required. Preliminary data required. Clinical trials not allowed. To be eligible, applicants may not have received more than $300,000 in direct costs for NF research as a PI of one or more federally funded, non-mentored peer reviewed grants. Funding: $400K over max 3 years.
