American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) - Grant Programs

* Distinguished Investigator Grants (up to $100K over 2 years): awarded to investigators at the level of associate professor or higher with an established record of research and publication on suicide.
* Standard Research Grants (up to $75K over 2 years): awarded to individual investigators at any level.
* Linked Standard Research Grants (up to $225K over 2 years): awarded to investigators at any level performing research involving three or more unique sites.
* Young Investigator Grants (up to $85K over 2 years): awarded to investigators at the level of assistant professor or lower. In addition to a maximum of $75K for the investigator’s research, these grants provide an additional $10K ($5K per year) for an established suicide researcher who will mentor the Young Investigator. AFSP can assist in matching mentors with mentees.
* Postdoctoral Research Fellowships (up to $100K over 2 years): awarded to investigators who have received a Ph.D., M.D., or other doctoral degree within the preceding six years and have not had more than three years of fellowship support. Fellows receive a progressive stipend of $42K for the first year and $46K for the second year, with an institutional allowance of $6K per year.
* Pilot Grants (up to $30K over one or 2 years): awarded to investigators at any level. These grants provide seed money for new projects with the potential to lead to subsequent, larger investigations and are typically feasibility rather than hypothesis-driven studies.
