DOD-CDMRP: Prostate Cancer Research Program - Population-Based Research Award

Supports high-impact approaches to PC research from the perspective of population-based studies, which may include retrospective, prospective, case-control, cohort, or other population-based study designs (including the use of biospecimens and data from established retrospective databases), provided that the sample of a defined patient population is of sufficient size to demonstrate statistical significance. Topics may include but  are not limited to biomarkers, predictors of response to therapy, disease aggressiveness, epidemiology, germline or somatic genomics, health disparity, molecular genetics, risk prediction. Funding: $600K over 4 years.

All applications for PCRP funding opportunities should also address at least one of 6 PCRP focus areas:
 - Biomarkers: Discovery and validation of biomarkers for the detection, prediction of response to therapy, prognosis,  and progression of PC.
 - Genetics: Understanding the genetics and epigenetics responsible for susceptibility, disease progression, and  treatment outcomes for clinically significant PC.
 - Imaging: Development of new anatomic and molecular imaging technology for the detection and management of PC.
 - Survivorship: Studies on the impact of treatment, nutrition, metabolism, and exercise on the well-being of PC patients and their families.
 - Therapy: Identification of new targets, pathways, and therapeutic modalities, including immunotherapy and mechanisms of resistance.
 - Tumor Biology and Immunology: Understanding prognosis and progression of PC.

Each PCRP funding opportunity either requires or encourages applications to address one of the following PCRPoverarching challenges:
- Develop effective treatments for advanced PC (i.e. disease relapse with no available curative therapy);
- Distinguish aggressive from indolent disease.
