BSF Energy Program

The call is limited to applications in Renewable Energy, Alternative Energy, and Energy Efficiency. Proposals will be evaluated on the basis of their scientific excellence, as well as on their expected impact on the energy-related problems which the two countries face.
Applications must be submitted jointly by at least one Israeli and one American scientist, as required in all BSF research proposals. Scientists who are presently BSF grantees, or submitted an application in the 2010 regular round, are allowed to submit a different proposal to this special program. If awarded in both competitions, they will be allowed to hold the two grants simultaneously.

Collaboration with industry partners is encouraged in the BSF Energy program. Industry partner can be a PI only if he does not request funding. However, researchers from the industry can be supported as subcontractors on the project, but may receive no more than 20 percent of the grant.

BSF Energy projects may be up to four years in duration, but shorter projects which can be expected to show meaningful results are encouraged. Up to 6 grants, each for up to $200,000, are expected to be given in the current round.

Applications to the BSF Energy program will be processed using a two tier submission process, starting with a short pre-proposal, followed by full proposals of selected applications. Pre-proposals will be submitted online www.bsf.org.il using the relevant BSF submission system, not later than April 13, 2011. The BSF website will be open for submission on March 20, 2011. Full proposals will be submitted online using the relevant BSF submission system, not later than Sept. 7, 2011.
