Researchers and innovators from academic science, science institutes and innovative companies are invited to apply. Applicants must be interested in understanding and proposing groundbreaking, innovative nutrition strategies and solutions. Candidates must be part of an entity or show the access to institutions having the capacity to perform the proposed research. Applicants are limited to maximum three submissions per investigator. The Danone Innovation Prize amount is maximum 80.000 €, in order to perform the research described in the research outline in the application form.

Topics for which we invite you to apply for:
Topic 1:
Proposal to enable the development of a natural, long shelf life, probiotic dairy food product One of the major challenges, within the mission to bring health through food to the maximum amount of people is to innovate in the way probiotic dairy products can be preserved in a natural way. Amongst other ideas, researchers may contribute to find solutions to protect probiotics to be kept alive or to enable dairy products to be kept fresh for several weeks or months.
Topic 2: Proposal to understand the interaction of probiotics and metabolites, derived from fermentation processes, with other lactic acid bacteria in different dairy matrices (such as yoghurt, buttermilk, kefir, dairy products with fruit juice, etc.). Do probiotic dairy products contain special, important metabolites after fermentation? How is the metabolism of probiotics influenced by the presence of other, non-probiotic, lactic acid bacteria or yeast? This are just two question which may arise when researchers do discuss this proposal.
Topic 3: The outcome of the research should show a way to enable the development of a natural food based solution (product / ingredient / technological process, etc) targeting nutrition related public health issues, such as e.g. healthy ageing, obesity or Cardio Vascular Disease prevention. How can food play a role in preventing the development of so-called “lifestyle diseases”? Can research propose natural nutrition strategies or products to face these challenges?
