American Federation for Aging Research (AFAR): New Investigator Awards in Aging Biology and Geroscience Research

Applicants must be independent investigators/group leaders with independent research space for at least 3 years... and must be no more than 12 years beyond start of postdoctoral research training.  The program supports research projects in basic biology of aging, as well as projects that translate advances in basic research from the laboratory to the clinic. The projects should focus on understanding the basic mechanisms of aging rather than disease-specific research.  Basic science priority areas include, but are not limited to:  Mitochondrial dysfunction  /  Deregulated nutrient sensing  /  Epigenetic alteration  /  Partial reprogramming  /  Loss of proteostasis  /  Immune system and aging  /  Microbiome  /  Gene therapy.   Funding: $375K over 3 years.
